#PSCproud to welcome Dave Benning to our Technical Team!

Pickering, Ontario – Pickering Soccer Club (PSC) announced Wednesday May 22nd that David Benning, has been appointed to the newly created position of Director of Soccer Operations (DSO). Dave brings the experience and success required in this new position to continue building the Club and provide additional leadership in the delivery of our technical strategic plan.

‘I knew when I met David that he’d be a great fit for Pickering SC’, said President Corrado Roccasalva. He’s a highly experienced leader who has coached all levels from grassroots, provincial teams, and to university and senior levels of competition. His passion for the game and the development of players will undoubtedly be a key contribution to the club’s success. I’m excited for him to be part of our growing leadership staff at Pickering SC.’

As a TD, Dave has most recently been instrumental in creating a showcase pathway for players to be scouted and recruited by university coaches both here in Canada and in the United States. From 1993 to 2003 and 2013 to 2017, Benning was one of the first technical directors hired in Ontario (Glen Shields FC) which opened a new industry and vision for youth clubs to hire a professionally licensed coach(s) to provide the necessary technical leadership to all club staff. From 2003 to 2013 Dave was the Technical Programs Manager at Canada Soccer where he was responsible for the National Training Centres across the country. In addition, he was the U15WNT Head Coach and U17WNT Assistant Coach at the U17 World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2012 where the team finished as quarter-finalist to North Korea.

‘My family and I are very excited to begin this new chapter in our lives. I would like to thank Corrado Roccasalva, Matt Greenwood, Ramin Mohammadi, and the rest of the Pickering SC Board of Directors for entrusting me with the duties and responsibilities of this new position and to be part of the excellent leadership team being assembled and the opportunity to contribute to a club making an impact at every level of the game. As a National Youth Club License candidate, it’s a privilege and an honour to be involved with a Club that has everything you need to help develop players and coaches to meet their personal goals and aspirations. I am looking forward to building on the strong foundation Ramin Mohammadi and Matt Greenwood have established over the past three years.’

David will act as the Club’s chief spokesperson for Club-level technical matters involving all governing bodies and leagues. He will be focusing on the overall technical vision and plans developed for our approved 2019-2022 Strategic Plan with a mandate to maximize a positive, standards-based culture including all required technical administration of planning, reporting and budgeting.

Ramin Mohammadi will become the Director of Coaching and Player Development (DOC) delivering grassroots and recreational programs from U7-U12 while also ensuring all our competitive coaches are supported, mentored, and monitored to maintain or achieve their coaching licenses. Ramin’s exemplary track record in the field of coach education as a multiple A-Licensed Coach and Ontario Soccer Learning Facilitator will mean even more support for PSC Coaches, female mentorship, and our coach education pathway.

‘As a Club the demands placed on one individual in a technical leadership role has increased exponentially over the past few years’, said Executive Director Matt Greenwood. ‘Ramin has been instrumental in our success but he was doing the job of two individuals and it was time to support him by bringing in another qualified individual to create an outstanding technical leadership team to lead our membership who would benefit greatly with an immediate effect. We welcome David and his family to our community and Pickering SC’ family.
