PSC well represented at the 2018 CONCACAF Girls’ Under-15 Championship
BRADENTON, Florida (August 13, 2018)
Pickering Soccer Club was well represented at the 2018 CONCACAF Girls’ Under-15 Championship August 4th – 13th at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. This year was the largest CONCACAF Tournament ever for female participants, featuring a record 26 CONCACAF Member Associations with Northern Ireland and Portugal as guest invitees from the UEFA Region.
Samantha B and Jaida B from the 2003 United FA OPDL Team, and Jenea K from our neighbouring Ajax Football Club earned their international debuts as members of the Girls Under-15 Squad representing the Guyana National Soccer Team (The Lady Jags).
Gavin Fredericks, a member of the Pickering Soccer Club’s Technical Coaching staff since 2009, was also selected to represent this year’s Guyana U-15 squad at the tournament as the Guyana National Team Assistant Coach.
Guyana won two of its four matches, with a 3:1 loss to St. Lucia, a 1:0 loss to Cayman Island, a 1:3 win over the Bahamas, and a 0:6 win over Curacao.
Guyana’s squad featured 18 players born 2003 or later, which also makes them eligible for the next CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship in 2020.
Assistant Coach, Gavin Fredericks said “It was a great experience for the players and coaching staff. The CONCACAF U15 Girls’ Championship was the first international tournament for the National U15 Girls in some time with a mix of Guyana and International-based players. Logistics makes it difficult when bringing two groups like this together, however, I was very impressed with how quickly the team gelled, grew stronger, and gained confidence as the tournament went on. We have an extraordinary group of players and staff and a bright future in the CONCACAF region.”
