Paul stated, “I am truly excited to be joining the Pickering Soccer Club, working once again in my local community at this historic time for soccer in Canada. I’m returning to the club that spawned my coaching career, as I began this journey as a volunteer within our house league program.
The City of Pickering is poised for some major growth, and I am glad to be coming back to participate and facilitate that growth in the sport for our community.”
Matt Greenwood, Pickering Soccer Club’s Executive Director stated, “We are pleased to have secured someone of Paul’s background and experience to work with the club as we have plans for him to work within various areas assisting us in continuing to provide services to our membership.”
“In addition to his responsibilities for the League 1 Men’s team, Paul will take over coaching duties with our U17 Boys High-Performance OPDL team. We are very enthusiastic and eager to have this team showcase moving forward as well as continue their development towards our senior semi-pro League 1 team. Paul has considerable experience having also led a number of U21 teams to Ontario Cup Semis and Finals as well as a Provincial Division Championship title,” stated PSC’s Director of Soccer Development Ramin Mohammadi.
Paul plans to draw on his past senior, U21, college and university coaching experience as well as past player relationships from within the region to build a competitive program for the 2019 season. Martin stated, “Many of the players will come from those who have already played in the league, some of which I have previously coached. Also, there will be some newcomers that have reached out and are looking to play at this level. We also plan to look at previous club members that we hope to bring back into the Pickering fold. We expect to secure the services of a number of experienced players looking to be showcased as the Canadian Premier League (CPL) is now the owner of League 1, and has provided a much-needed pathway to professional soccer for many in our country.”
