DUFA Success Stories

February, 2016 – Jordan Dover joins Rochester from DUFA League1 Men!

Pickering Soccer Club (PSC), license holder for Durham United Football Alliance (DUFA), is proud to announce one of their League1 Ontario (L1O) Men’s players has signed a professional contract.

Jordan Dover (@J_dover) has signed with the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer League (USL). The versatile defender/midfielder signed the professional contract last week and will report to Rochester’s training camp February 20th.  After three seasons with DUFA he now moves onto the USL—North American soccer’s second tier.  Dover stated “it was always a pleasure playing here with the great staff and facility.” Dover continued, “I trusted in the process and now it’s paid off thanks to the support from the Durham community.”

Although the PSC’s High Performance Manager, Chris Eveleigh, is disappointed to lose one of his top players, he is excited for Jordan as “he has worked hard and deserves this opportunity to shine abroad.” Chris added “Jordan believed in the process and bought into the culture of excellence we’ve created here and now it’s paying off.”

DUFA Men’s Head Coach, Sanford Carabin, is proud to see one of his L1O players progress. “I have known Jordan since he was nine years old having witnessed his development through the youth and college levels from a distance and more recently at the L1O level from up close,” said Carabin. “Jordan has always been a player comfortable in taking the next step, regardless of the level, so it doesn’t surprise me that he has been able to crack the pro ranks. I have no doubt he will be able to meet the requirements of USL and wish him the very best as he begins his professional career,” Carabin concluded.

Feb 11, 2016 – Durham United F.A. is pleased to announce that goalkeeper Nora Abolins has signed with QBIK in Sweden for the 2016 season.

The 2015 Women’s League 1 Ontario MVP and Championship winning goalkeeper received many inquiries from teams in Europe this off-season but selected QBIK because of their commitment to excellence, the fact they are one of the very few all-female clubs in Sweden and that they have the ambition to play in the top flight of Swedish Women’s Football in the next couple of years.

“Having the opportunity to play professionally in Sweden is a dream come true! I’m so excited for what this new chapter holds.  I’d like to thank Durham United FA for giving me both the opportunity and platform to prepare for this challenge.”  says Nora Abolins

“Nora’s leadership, love for the game and attitude towards training and competing was very contagious.  She has been outstanding both on and off the field.” said Tony LaFerrera, Head Coach of Durham United FA.

Feb 5, 2016 – DUFA is pleased to announce Joe Zupo, Co-Captain this past season, has committed to a one year deal to play for the Davenport Strikers in the National Premier League in Tasmania/Australia for the 2016 season.  Davenport competes in the second highest level of soccer, just below the Australian A League.

A league All-star and MVP candidate, Head Coach Sanford Carabin says ”Joe was the inspirational leader of our team and I can’t recall a game that he ever put a foot wrong.  An immense presence in our back line, Joe competed in every game for us and led by example.  This is the right time for Joe to take the step up and further challenge himself.  I couldn’t be happier for him.”

“I’m very excited to be going on this journey to continue my development and to continue to test myself at higher levels.” says Joe Zupo.  “As a competitive player, that’s extremely important for me. I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and experiencing a new lifestyle and culture, as well.  My time in League 1 has given me access to this chance – playing alongside and against players who are just as keen as I am as moving up the pyramid in world football kept me motivated to train well and keep my form up.  Credit has to be given to Durham United for finding me this opportunity and supporting me in this endeavor.”

All of us at DUFA would like to wish Joe the very best as he begins the next chapter in his professional playing career.

Feb 2, 2016 – A key member of the Durham United Football Alliance (formally DUFC) midfield from last season, Kristen Lee-Him has signed with Slovenian Club MNK Izola for the 2016 season.  “After joining us a few weeks into the season, Kristen’s commitment and hard work were evident from the very first training session.  Once he got his chance, he never left the starting 11.” said Head Coach Sanford Carabin.

All of us at DUFA would like to wish Kristen the very best as he begins the next chapter in his playing career in Europe.
