About In Motion
In Motion is a low impact active living program for Adults 55+. In Motion provides opportunities for older adults to get active through fun, recreational based activities that are designed to encourage the discovery of new pursuits or to assist in re-establishing an active lifestyle.
In Motion started in January 2018, and takes place on Tuesday mornings at the Pickering Soccer Centre which is a new, state of the art facility, that is fully accessible, features a soft indoor turf surface and has ample free parking.

In 2017, the Pickering Soccer club applied for the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund, as a way to generate new programs that could expand our club and our facility. Our application was accepted, and the In Motion program was implemented. In Motion is a FREE Active Living Program for Adults 55+ that incorporates Health & Wellness Education, Recreational Activities and Social Interaction. Our members have been meeting once a week since January – and this program has steadily grown from 18 participants the first week to over 100 regular participants and over 200 members.
As we enter into the final stages of our grant funding, we are now planning for the program’s sustainability. Our In Motion participants have been very vocal about their hopes that this program continues once the funding is complete. We would like to ensure that happens, because the educational, recreational and social opportunities this program has created, has had such a positive impact on our members.

“The programme mainly has encouraged me to become more active. The facility is very convenient for Ajax and Pickering participants. The variety of the 3 hour programme is very refreshing. Great subjects for lectures and time to socialize . The good thing is the freedom to participate in what you want each week…no pressure to have to do everything”. George O.
“For us, we’ve both battled depression as our age (71) increases and our capabilities decline. For years, we’ve continually admonished each other to at least establish a program of regular walking together, but have not been able to do so. Coming out to your interesting programs once a week has given us the extra incentive to get there every time, where we not only learn something interesting and relevant, but also do some sort of physical exercise or activity — even if it’s only walking together around the soccer field for half-an-hour. Thank you very much for this bright point in our week”. Matthew T
“The walking soccer program was a very pleasant surprise. I didn’t think I would get to play soccer with so many friendly people again after reaching an age where my knees and fitness were less than stellar. I felt the staff and organizers were welcoming to anyone at any skill level and it was well organized. I hope to be able to attend more of the In Motion programs this fall”. Anonymous
“This is such an awesome program, Tammy and all the helpers were a joy to be around every week. I suffered a heart attack last year and have learned thru rehab and research how valuable the social and exercise program in motion offers and is critical in keeping us healthy and may even prevent serious illness by getting us up off the couch before a serious illness strikes. Thank you for making this program available. Just after I had my heart attack and then learning so much about eating right, exercising and controlling stress I thought wouldn’t it make sense if government could start preventative measures before people actually got sick, I’m sure it would save millions of dollars and lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Anonymous
