Pickering Soccer Club’s U12 Boys Enjoy Successful USA Cup

The Pickering Soccer Club’s Under 12 Boys (U12B) recently sent two teams to the USA Cup in Blaine, Minnesota from July 16-22, 2018.  The U12B Green team participated in the Gold Division while the U12B Gold team participated in the Silver Division. Each team played three round robin games and the results are as follows:

U12 Boys Green

  • PSC 4, Maplebrook (Minnesota) 3
  • PSC 4, Edina (Minnesota) 3
  • PSC 12, Eclipse (Minnesota) 1

U12 Boys Gold

  • PSC 1, Euro FC (Minnesota) 1
  • PSC 3, Minneapolis United (Minnesota) 0
  • PSC 2, Hudson (Wisconsin) 1

With successful round robins completed, both teams qualified for the top flight knockout stages in their respective divisions.

PSC Green was up against a difficult Mexican side – CDI Blanco in their quarterfinal game. Despite some early pressure, PSC Green gave up a late goal heading into the break and went into the half down 1-0. The boys rallied in the second half and put in a dominating performance scoring 4 times to win the game 4-1.

PSC Gold knocked out Lakes United (Minnesota) by a score of 6-0 in the round of sixteen elimination game, thus both Pickering teams had now qualified for the quarterfinals.

Unfortunately for everyone, the teams played their next games at roughly the same time.

PSC Green kicked off first and scored an early goal against Noria FC (Mexico) in the semi-finals before the weather put a halt to the game.  After an hour delay, PSC Green continued their early dominance and won out right by a score of 4-1. At the final whistle, and hearing their Gold teammates were in a close battle, both players and parents rushed over to the PSC Gold quarterfinal to cheer on their teammates.

PSC Gold faced a difficult game vs. CDI Amarillo (Mexico) in a game that ended 2-2. The game went to overtime where PSC Gold took advantage of the crowd support they were receiving from their Green teammates/parents, and came out on top by a score of 4-2.

Having a successful Friday meant that both teams had a chance to represent our Club in their respective division finals the next day. PSC Green qualified for the final at 9am, and PSC Gold would play their semi-final, also at 9am.

PSC Gold were up against another very good Mexican side – CDI Amarillo. The Mexican side scored first before PSC Gold fought back with the tying goal heading into half time. CDI Amarillo once again scored early in the second, which forced PSC Gold to open up in an effort to tie the game. Unfortunately this lead to another CDI Amarillo goal, leaving PSC Gold with a 3-1 loss.

The final for PSC Green was a tense affair against Grand FC (Illinois). The teams traded 3 goals each and the game ended in a draw. With their PSC Gold teammates in attendance, the 10-minute overtime period was all PSC Green with a crossbar hit and a number of balls cleared off the goal line. Despite the pressure, the overtime ended with no goals meaning penalty kicks would settle the championship.

Both teams scored their first three penalties before the PSC keeper dove to his right pushing the ball past the post on FC Grand’s fourth kick! PSC Green then scored their next two penalties sending them home 2018 USA Cup Champions!

The USA Cup was a 5-year plan for the 2006 boys coaching staff and would not have been possible without the fantastic parent support throughout the fundraising campaign and the tournament itself. Your songs and chants inspired the boys and provided the energy they needed at the end of a long tournament week.

Both teams played some great football over the course of the week and handled themselves with class both on and off the pitch. A huge thank you to Coaches Manny W and Savio D, along with Manager Vicky M who worked tirelessly up to, and throughout the week. You made us … #PSCPROUD!
